The Rationale behind Rahu Kalam

The Rationale behind Rahu Kalam

This article is purely based on a very ancient Hindu belief system. It is not backed by Empirical evidence Or Scientific Analysis.

The Rahu in Rahukalam does not refer to the shadow planets Rahu and Ketu of Hindu astrology, it refers to the colors of a group of sun-rays :
As we all know, "vibgyor"  represents the seven colours of rainbow. If we reverse it, we get "roygbiv", namely red, orange yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. After violet, there is another group of rays called "ultraviolet"  rays which are not visible to naked eyes. If we divide the daytime of Sunday into 8  parts of 1.5 hours each, this will be the order in which the coloured rays will occour. In subsequent days, the starting colour will be different but the sequence will be the same.

The following table will clarify things properly:

Semi Rational people like most of us need not get scared by RAHU KALAM. As far as possible, they may remain at home or office and indulge in ethical deeds.  If at all, it is essential to travel during this period, they may chant Rahu Kala Durga Ashtakam or Durgasaptha slokee. Idea is not to get exposed to the ultraviolet rays being emitted at that time. Tuesday Rahukalam is taken more seriously as mars is linked with blood or accidents. Pujas during Rahukalam are ideal.

The sequence of colours of rays at night is exactly reverse of the sequence  in the day,  as we see in a mirror.  So, there is Rahu Kalam at night also.  Nobody Takes it Seriously as most of us are asleep during that period.

Let us travel the middle path between reason and faith.

The Past few days...

The past few days..

from 23 Nov..to be precise .. have been something very surreal..Work took away my best friend to Delhi for 5 days from nov 21.It was certainly a long 5 days..Events and circumstances of the past few months was certainly taking a toll... as the frequency of skirmishes seemed to suddenly increase off late...the forced loneliness was a time to reflect upon the days and years gone bye..so what did i do???? Reached out to the attic and brought down the many boxes of letters exchanged with my best pal since October 1991...picking them out at random ..and reading through them hit me so hard..i found my self crying ..out uncontrollably..many a times..and some found me smiling ear to ear...the promises that were made .....of being there for each other..loving each other...living and sharing the best and the worst..shared fun and laughter..fears and worries...even the fear of losing our friendship in the event of getting into matrimony with some one else..then the resolve to keep this friendship going no matter what.....and finally the gradual evolution of that inseparable friendship into matrimony between the two of us....it has been one helluva a roller coaster ride!! It has only brought home to this thick head of me...that no matter what... i have my best friend with me .....so long as there is the two of ..we have all the world and its charms...and when the world is through with us we still have each other's arms... Love you my best amigo...
